Yeti Works, has announced today it will stop shipment on all gaming computers affected by the recent Sandy Bridge processor defect. Effective immediately all systems will be reconfigured using known good hardware or they will be placed on hold until a permanent fix is available. Recently Intel announced that the current Sandy Bridge processor family had a defective silicon chip which causes the SATA controller to fail. Intel is yet to release plans of an improved chip; however it is likely a fix will be on the shelf shortly. A Yeti Works spokesperson told us only a hand full of systems they shipped were affected and were dealt with immediately. This is the first major crisis Intel has had in the last few years. The outcome should be interesting. IF you are a Yeti Works customer in possession of a defective Sandy Bridge system it is advised that you contact Yeti Works to schedule a replacement or repaired system. If your system came with a Gigabyte motherboard you can use their 6 Series SATA checker tool to help optimize your motherboards performance.
The tool works as follows.
The 1st scenario is where there are no devices connected to the affected Intel PCH SATA 2.0 ports, and the utility will let you know that your "SATA configuration (is) OK".
The 2nd scenario is where your devices are all connected to the affected Intel PCH SATA 2.0 ports, and the utility will advise you to "(Please) move 1 or 2 devices from (the) Intel PCH SATA 2.0 ports to the free SATA 3.0 ports.
The 3rd scenario is where you have devices connected to the affected Intel PCH SATA 2.0 ports and the SATA 3.0 ports are also populated. Here the utility will advise you that "Use of (the) Intel PCH SATA 2.0 ports is not recommended". The 1st scenario is where there are no devices connected to the affected Intel PCH SATA 2.0 ports, and the utility will let you know that your "SATA configuration (is) OK".
